Our favourite green little dinosaur is back, this time he has friends! Yoshi’s crafted world is the eighth main game based on Yoshi from the ever-popular Super Mario universe and we were incredibly excited to play.

Yoshi’s Crafted World starts where all the Yoshi’s live peacefully on Yoshi’s Island, then Kamek and Baby Bowser attempts to steal the Sundream Stone. With the Yoshi’s and the two villains fighting and pulling over the stone, the gems shoot out a spread across the world. Now there is a race between the Yoshi’s and Kamek and Baby Bowser to see who can recover the gems first.

You can decide on a few different Yoshi’s to use for your adventure and you can also play local Co-Op to increase the fun. The style of the Yoshis are based on Yoshi’s Woolly World where the characters are made of yarn, the rest of the world is more of a cardboard cut-out type style and they actually fit very well together. The graphic does look a lot better and the game was developed on the Unreal Engine 4.

As with most of these platformer games, you have to collect things through the level. In Yoshi’s Crafted World you have 5 flowers that needs to be collected, then you also get a bonus for collecting a certain amount of coins, having full health and collecting Poochies on some stages. What also makes this platformer a little different is that at some stages you will move up and down as well and not just sideways. Yoshi again has the ability to swallow up baddies with his tongue but this time instead of making them into a ball of yarn they are now turned into eggs that you can use to shoot other enemies or objects.

The coins that you collect can be spent at vending machines throughout the world that will spit out capsules which contain costumes. You can equip these costumes and they will provide extra protect to your Yoshi. There are 10 costumes to collect at every machine. The costumes also have a rarity level which improves the protection it provides. Amiiboes are also supported and can give you some cool bonus costumes.

A flip side mode is also available after completing a stage as a second run through. In this mode you need to collect poochies and bring them to the goal with a time limit. You will also see a more in-depth view of how the stages were put together.

Yoshi’s Crafted World is an incredible cool platformer game and everything you expect from a Yoshi title. It can be enjoyed by the whole family for hours of fun.
