It’s been 3 years since we visited the alternate history 1961 America. The New Colossus takes place 5 months after The New Order where William B.J. Blazkowicz has just awoken from a coma after critical wounds from Deathshead’s Fortress.

As BJ emerges from his long “nap” the first thing you see is that his love interest Anna is pregnant with twins. Then the U-boat that you are on gets attacked by Frau Engel, a crazy sadistic Nazi Commander and things start going affray.

The story gets wacked fast, and there are some shock and awe moments that will rustle your bones but all of this you need to experience for yourself as it sets the tone of the game. I saw a lot of gameplay videos of The New Order but never actually played the game, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect from The New Colossus and I was pleasantly surprised.

MachineGames has re-created a fantastic new series of this classic and grandfather of the FPS genre. There was a little mis-step with The Old Blood in terms of the story but otherwise they are having wonderful success with the series and The New Colossus is adding to it.

The only complaint I have so far is that the game can become hard to a point where it is frustrating. Sometimes you will die 5 times or more just trying to get past a certain point of a stage, so a key factor in the game is stealth and tactical advantage. You really can’t just run and gun in the game as it will put you on your ass very quickly, checking out the lay of the land and planning is paramount to your success but sometimes a little surprise will stuff up your planning and you might have to start all over again.

The game looks amazing and the audio is on par with it. The bloodshed and gruesome graphics might be a bit much for some, but it is very well done. The gameplay works as with the previous installment, being able to dual-wield a lot of guns will add to some great fun but I still prefer the accuracy of a single wield.

Other than the dying and few minor bugs, The New Colossus is a solid title and even though it might not be for everyone or enjoyed by everyone it certainly does have a big following and a big genre to cater for. Definitely worth a try!
