“VROOM KABOOM is a brand-new type of gameplay experience. A FREE-TO-PLAY “Tower Rush with Vehicles”, this game combines elements from collectible card games, tower defense and multiplayer online battles. Build a deck of vehicles and deploy them into battle against other players online. It ends in destruction.
With a wide variety of physics driven vehicles, VROOM KABOOM is a crazy mash up of emergent action gameplay and tactical choices. Engage in 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 battles and even take to the roads in our full featured VR mode!
And even better, choose from our three playable factions, each contain unique cards to collect, vehicles to drive, environments to play in and music to enjoy!”
Vroom Kaboom is a mashup of a few popular genres, Racing, Card game and tower defence. This is a rather risky move if you ask me as it is three very intricate genres. On paper this sounds absolutely amazing but how do you pull this off well ratloop games gave it their all to put them all together
Your man goal is to take out your enemies “base” at the end of the road. Sounds simple right? Well on the contrary its not. You have a startup deck with different vehicles you can spawn, but you need “energy” in the form of either oil or gas to spawn these. This resource can be collected on the track. As you progress through the game you unlock better and stronger vehicles, but be careful as they also cost more resources.
Once you have spawned your vehicle or vehicles you can switch to it to “drive” it. Reason for putting drive in inverted commas is because it’s not actually driving. It just gives you the ability to change the lane the vehicle is in (with a second or 2 delay with that) and tell it when to shoot or jump. Pretty meh if you ask me and this was a deal breaker for me. If you promote a game as “racing” please give me full control of the vehicle.
The AI is also very unpredictable in this game, one match would be super easy to win where the next or just a replay of the same stage is nearly impossible the amount of vehicles they are able to spawn is 4 times more than you can, a bit unfair won’t you say. I am yet to find a match that is an even playing ground. I tried a multiplayer game but was unable to find any other players in the lobby on multiple occasions.
Overall vroom kaboom was a game that sounded extremely promising but was a bit of a let down and felt unpolished. It can be fixed by patching the game, perhaps relook at the resource cost, balance the AI to have the same amount of resources and for heaven’s sake let me drive please.
