“Trials® Rising is the newest iteration of Ubisoft’s gripping motorcycle platforming series. Combining the core gameplay and over-the-top action of the Trials franchise with all-new features, more competition, and a fresh visual look, Trials Rising is the biggest and most ambitious title in the series to date.” – Ubisoft
I was excited when I heard I had the opportunity to review Trials Rising. I remembered all the previous Trials titles, nights wasted playing for hours. Obviously I had to give Trials Rising a go.
Here’s where it goes south, not a lot, but south is south.
The menus are buggy and slow. This makes it a bit frustrating to navigate. Once you get used to it, its fine, but still, it could do with some spit and polish.
The gameplay is pretty awesome; however, not without fault. There are some graphical issues, flashing textures and intermittent crashes. When you’ve been playing for 4 hours straight to beat your buddies record, its hard to stay positive when you fly into a black screen, followed by the appearance of the familiar Xbox homescreen.
Its not all doom and gloom though. The games mechanics are superb, it has that familiar Trials feeling, but with more…
I find it a lot easier to link jumps, this keeps the game flowing without regular falls or general chaos.
The ingame music is one of the strong points. It has always been that way, its not Trials without some epic tunes to keep you company at 3am in the morning, because, “Just one more try”.
Interestingly, Trials is now cross-platform. You can read more about it on the Ubisoft website, but here a little snippet of the good bits:
“Trials Rising features cross–platform functionality between PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of the game. Cross–platform functionality will be enable by default and will include: leaderboards, ghosts and rivals.”
So in conclusion. Would I buy Trials again…
Yes, definitely. The game feels like its one patch away from being great, lets hope this happens soon.
- The game is addictive as can be
- Challenging race roster
- So the game is a little buggy
- Glitchy textures
- The game crashes every now and then
