The Colonists Review

A new city builder with a twist, a fresh twist indeed.

The Colonist is a fresh new take on city building, with the same basic mechanics. The colony is, however, a colony of little cute robots that moved away from earth to get away from humans. These robots still require resources, think Age of Empires but with cute robots that just want a new start.

Plan to Win

If you have ever played this genre of games, you will know that planning is easily the most important part of the journey. Making sure you have the right layout, resources required and room for expansion isn’t always easily. However, I felt like there was definitely an AID coming in the form of missions, these mission had a guide feel that put you on the right path but did not play the game for you, so to speak. There will come a time where you will have to take over enemies bases in order to get to the right resources, and take your reign as king of the planet. The map also gives you challenges as you progress, with different terrains and obstacles you need to overcome to find the right resource or just to expand. The progression on the game is perfectly balanced and hours of fun.

Vibrant Fun

The game is a cute and vibrant title with a ton of bright colours and visuals. The art style is perfect for the fun aspect of the game, giving you a less serious vibe and more of a fun and exciting feeling. The game exudes cute, from the concept the art style to the audio. There hasn’t been a game since Theme Hospital that has given me this same feeling, making this an awesome nostalgic experience with a new look and feel.

Overall

This game is definitely one to try. The developers have done a great job listening to the community and making the right changes to the game. I personally love this game and cannot wait to play more into the future.
