Tabletop gaming fans check out Sultan’s Library

If you’re a fan of tabletop games we have something rather rad for you. Local South African company, Photon Games, launched a kickstarter last week to get a new card game off the ground.

It’s important to support South African developers but they ultimately have to produce something worth supporting and looking at the offering, Sultan’s Library, Photon Games has done just that.

The gameplay is rather interesting. You play as an Envoy sent out by the Sultan to gather books and return them to his Library. You have two actions that you can use to explore the world during your turn and you need to use those actions to find books, pick them up and bring them back to the Library. I also found the “marketing pitch” for Sultan’s Library rather compelling:

“The desert is a strange and dangerous place. And yet, there are those who are willing to risk it all to get a taste of the fortune it holds. They will travel to ancient and beautiful places. They will find riches, knowledge and peace. In the end, they will all return to… The Sultan’s Library!”

The kickstarter has been done to finish final production on the card game and get it out to players. For $45 you’ll get the game shipped to you (and the guys at Photon are offering free shipping to the USA, Canada and South Africa). Photon has also partnered up with PandaGM to ensure you receive high quality linen embossed cards. The game pack includes 14 book cards, 16 event cards, 30 location cards, 33 journey cards, 24 action cards, 6 envoys & tokens, 1 Sultan’s Library, 1 first player token and 1 rulebook.

Zan Atkinson and Ryno Lourens have combined their artistic talents and ability to memorise game rulebooks to bring this came to life and it promises to be an adventure for 2 to 4 players with game play lasting between 15 and 45 minutes.

If you don’t have $45 lying around, for $4 via kickstarter you’ll get a print and play copy. There is a few other options available. You can aid the Sultan’s Library kickstarter here.
