Sonic is one iconic character and it is awesome that he outlived the console hardware that he was born on and even though the Sega consoles are no longer with us, luckily, they didn’t give up on the publishing gig.

Sonic Mania was originally released in 2017 which has now been boosted with Sonic Mania Plus. Sonic Mania Plus includes a few additional content of characters, modes and levels. The playable characters Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel from SegaSonic the Hedgehog has been included, each with unique abilities: Mighty can slam the ground and is immune to spikes when in ball form, while Ray can glide without losing altitude.

Encore Mode has remixed levels and a reworked lives mechanic, additionally there is a pinball bonus stage, and a four-player competition mode. An update was released alongside Sonic Mania Plus to add more cutscenes and a reworked Metal Sonic battle based on his appearance in Knuckles’ Chaotix.

The physical version was released with a 32-page art book and a reversible cover in the style of Genesis or Mega Drive box art covers, depending on the region. This is a cool collectable for the people who wants something extra and likes memorabilia.

Even though Sonic Mania Plus is a re-release from a classic compilation it is still very cool and with a few additional content it has some flair. Gamers a itching for a new Sonic game but for now we will have to be satisfied with reliving old classic with some tweaks.
