Skeleton Knight in Another World, also known as Gaikotsu Kishi-sama, Tadaima Isekai e Odekakechuu, is an anime series by Studio Kai along with HORNETS and is based off the Japanese light novel adaptation based on the Web Novel series of the same name written by Ennki Hakari. The Light Novel is illustrated by KeG. The anime series consists of 12 episodes of 23 minutes each.

This must be one of the strongest openings I’ve seen in an anime. The first part of the first episode took me completely by surprise and it was totally brutal (Viewer discretion is strongly advised the opening scene features trigger content)! Regarding the narrative this is a run-of-the-mill Isekai story where the main character, Arc, wakes up in the world he’s been isekaied to, he doesn’t stop to question why he’s been sent there but sets off to find food and shelter. He meets up with an elf who needs help and so Arc and his new elf friend go on a quest to save the other elves. Arc is just this typical do-gooder guy who is nothing short of OP and can never keep himself from stopping and helping anyone he sees in need even if it would mean getting into trouble himself. Having said this, I can’t seem to tire of the Isekai genre, and this was one of the more enjoyable, although, generic ones.

The narrative doesn’t show much character growth unless you’d like to count Arc discovering one OP ability after the next, but he does develop a bond and companionship with his elf friend and his ninja friends. The narrative develops well and at a good pace. Fair warning there’s no shortage of gore (Beware! This series is raw) but the roughness of it was quite refreshing as it’s been a while since I’ve watched a series that was this “real”. The narrative handles some real-world concepts/issues such as racism, SA, slavery, illegal organization operations, etc. and good guy Arc is always there to save the day, he’s such a wholesome character. Regarding the rest of the narrative, there seems to be some indication that Arc isn’t the only person from Japan to have reincarnated in this world and as the story continues there is more and more evidence suggesting this, it would not surprise me if this started to play a more important role in the narrative going forward to season 2 and so on, but this is just my own speculation. The narrative features some comedy which had me in stitches with each occurrence.

All in all, this was one of the more enjoyed series that I’ve watched from this season’s offering and I would highly recommend it to more mature audiences as it is rated R – 17+ (violence & profanity) and I would not recommend it to the faint-hearted. Seriously looking forward to season 2!
