Razer Kaira Dual Wireless Review

A decent headset has become easier to get your hands on over the past few years. A Great headset on the other hand always seems to be difficult to find. There are a number of factors for this. Sound Quality, Wired or Wireless, RGB Lighting, Weight, Size of the headset or size of the cups, and of course, comfort. You can have an absolutely great headset with all of the above if it’s not comfortable it’s not going to be great for long gaming sessions, which of course all Gamers want.

Razer recently sent over their new Razer Kaira Dual Wireless for PS5. I was excited by this as there still aren’t a lot of options for a great headset for the PS5 Console, so this being Razer’s entry had piqued my interest.

So I unboxed it, connected it to my PS5, and put it on. To connect to the PS5 took under 20 seconds from plugging in the dongle. The first thing I noticed is how lightweight the headset is and how it came with a neat little USB Type-C Connector. Wearing the headset on my head I noted how soft the ear cushions are and how the cup mold blocked out all the noise in my gaming room. The new ear cushions are made of something Razer calls “Flowknit Memory Foam”, a soft breathable fabric with memory foam as the base.

Once all of this was set up, I loaded up Guardians of the Galaxy on the newly released PS Plus Deluxe Pass. The sound quality itself is exactly what you’d expect from a Razer headset. It was clear, with no distortion whatsoever, and the soundtrack was absolutely crisp with just enough bass to shake things up a bit. A feature that i did find lacking was the addition of 3D Audio for PS5 on the headset. After using a few other brands on my PS5 this was something i had gotten used to and unfortunately did find lacking.

After playing a while I opened up my party chat so I could speak to my friends and test out the Unidirectional Hyperclear Cardioid Mic. The mic itself is supposed to be bendable to fit your face and be able to suppress any background noise.

While the background noise suppression worked incredibly well, the mic arm itself kept dropping off to where I’d sound distant to my party friends. i tried bending it harder or higher multiple times but this kept on happening no matter what I tried. Almost as if the mic arm was too flimsy, I think if Razer had made this just a little more rigid it would have been perfect.

Next up is the battery life, Razer notes that the headset should run about 30 hours or so on a single charge. This was incredibly accurate. In my few weeks of usage on both PC and PS5, I only charged it less than a handful of times. I’m almost positive that this is due to the lack of RGB on the headset, which personally I am a fan of. I would trade RGB for better battery life every day of the week. It’s also a win for me considering I either have my wireless peripherals always plugged in (PC) or Controllers put back on their charging dock after the end of a gaming session (PS5), so an extended battery life is a welcome addition on a wireless headset.

Final Thoughts

Razer rarely ever disappoints with the build quality on their peripherals, and this again was the case with the Kaira Headset for PS5. Sure there are a few things lacking such as 3D Audio for PS5, Or Hypersense haptic feedback like some of Razer’s other more pricier headsets, but at this price point, I’d say Razer has done a phenomenal job with the Kaira. The Razer Kaira is simple and easy enough to just Plug and Play.
