Razer Ornata V3 keyboard review

What will happen if you use a mechanical switch and a membrane backplane in a keyboard? You get the Razer Ornata V3 that is what happens!

Razer has made a very low-profile gaming keyboard that’s very similar to a very expensive gaming laptop keyboard and made it bigger and better. The Razer Ornata V3 has a distinct clicky sound(close to the sound of the Razer Yellow switches)and you won’t wake up the house when you write reviews or play games early in the morning.

Coming in at only 2.7cm the Razer Ornata V3 doesn’t lift your hands too far from the table, so you are less likely to get fatigued when using the keyboard. Razer even included a soft-touch wrist rest to keep with the ergonomics of the low-profile design.

Due to the Razer Ornata V3 not being a mechanical keyboard and only having a plastic chassis(compared to metal chassis on mechanical keyboards) it only weighs 769g, which makes it lightweight in a heavy keyboard market. The Ornata V3 does also feature a braided USB cable as comes standard with all Razer products.

When it comes to RGB, you have ten zones that you can program in Chroma Studio in Razer’s Synapse software. I did find that some of the more advanced effects didn’t work so well on the Ornata V3 compared to my Blackwidow. The Ornata V3 also features Razer’s Macro mode and Gaming mode(all of which you can activate by using the function key and pressing F9 – F12).

Overall I was very pleased with the Razer Ornata V3. It does not cost a lot, coming in at R1599 MSRP. It is low profile and still gives you the feel of a clicky mechanical Keyboard. Each keystroke feels solid and you will not even think that the Ornata V3 is part membrane keyboard. It has RGB however I could not get my custom fireplace profile to work with it. I would recommend this to anybody that can not afford a mechanical keyboard. The Ornata V3 also comes with a 2-year warranty which is excellent for this price range. I wish they would include a soft leather wrist rest compared to the soft-touch plastic.
