The arcade game Rampage was fairly simple, you played as one of 3 monsters and the goal was to destroy the city. The three monsters were George, the Gorilla, Ralph, the Wolf and Lizzy, a reptile. These 3 monsters and destroying the city was basically the only thing the writers could use to make the movie as the game didn’t have any story or much to build on. This could also be seen as a positive as they had more freedom creating the movie’s story.

The Rock, Dwayne Johnson stars in the movie and with his recent success and being one of the most paid actors in the industry how could they go wrong? In my opinion nothing they did for this movie was wrong, it was cheesy, it was funny, it has action and it is a cool adventure. Everything you want from an 80’s genre movie.

Yes, it is not the blockbuster of the season nor is it going to receive any Oscars but it still ranks as a cool movie in my eyes. The main thing to remember is that you need to take the movie for what it is, built on a classic game to be a “Monster destroys city” movie.

I think Rampage is being released just in time between the gap of the main movies this half of the year, Black Panther and Infinity War. If it was released earlier or later, I would say that this movie will do worse than what it should. Rampage is a good movie to see if you like 80’s pop culture!
