Project Motor Racing Review – Update Impressions

Project Motor Racing had a rocky launch, plagued by issues ranging from problematic force feedback (FFB) to questionable multiclass AI. However, the latest update marks a dramatic turnaround, delivering improvements across the board and finally offering the campaign experience simracers have been craving.

Stability & Multiplayer
The game’s overall stability has improved significantly. Multiplayer sessions now run smoothly without the headaches of constant crashes. With multiple fixes already rolled out, online racing feels far more reliable and enjoyable.

Track Limits & Warning System
The revamped warning system is a welcome change. Some circuits enforce what players call “F1 Rules,” where track limits can feel harsh. The new system provides a fairer, more forgiving approach — a gentle reminder rather than an instant penalty — helping players adapt to each layout.

Accessibility & Tire Warmers
Tire warmers are now enabled by default, a small but impactful change that eases new players into the game. This step toward accessibility creates a friendlier onboarding experience, something many sim titles still lack.

AI Improvements & Career Mode
The AI overhaul is arguably the highlight of this update. Opponents now display better logic, fighting spirit, and situational awareness. This makes career mode far more engaging, as AI drivers no longer mindlessly ram into you during overtakes but instead behave with realistic racing etiquette.

The Bigger Picture
While this update is a major step forward, Project Motor Racing still has ground to cover. Force Feedback remains the biggest issue, limiting the experience for players using wheelbases instead of controllers. Yet history shows that sim titles often launch rough — ACC struggled with variety, LMU with stability, and iRacing still wrestles with netcode. Despite these hurdles, each has reached greatness over time.

Project Motor Racing now feels closer to the game it was marketed to be. With continued development, especially around FFB, there’s reason to believe that within a year it could evolve into the title fans were promised at release.
