PES 2019 is here! With some great new features and some new looks. The challenge for me is always how does the game compare from last year and is it worth getting the new one.

One of the saddest things for me in regard to sport games are licensing, I understand the concept behind it but at the end of the day the “gamer: is the one that is affected by it and this is probably one of the PES series’ biggest downfall. This year, the UEFA Champions League agreement has expired and has gone over to the other soccer game. With this you will notice that some licensing is not present with PES any more, they have the Russian league and the whole of Serie A except for Juventus. Most of the individual players will still have their correct names etc.

So now with licensing out of the way let’s talk about the other stuff. Something that might be obvious, but I still feel it has to be said is that this is the best looking PES game to date and you can see that the developing team spent a lot of time on physics and animation.

The game’s defending feels more real and a ton better, goalies keeping looks realistic and have a lot better saves than before. Scoring goals feel different every time and makes you feel like you actually worked to score it and not just kicked a ball in a net.

One of the big improvements has to be the MyCLub mode, a lot of work was put in here and even though it still needs some tweaks, it is leaps and bounds better. The career mode (both team management and superstar) is cool but here as well it needs a little extra so that it doesn’t feel bland or like you are doing the same thing over again.

PES 2019 is a great game and I enjoy playing it as it has more of an action/arcade gameplay feel to it which I enjoy. It is sad about the licensing, but they are definitely getting closer to the other soccer game to become a real threat.
