SEGA introduced us with an Olympics game which is based more on having fun with friends and family or competing together in an online world with funny outfits and useful tips as you play the event.
You can see straight off the bat that this game is made for friends and family instead of the more realistic look, having a countdown on the main screen helps build the hype for the Olympics to start, after this, you select your nation and customize your character with either preset looks or go for the more advanced changes.
Seeing the funny or cool costumes and if that is your main reason for getting the game, do not fear if you do not see them when creating your avatar as you can customize your character afterwards and with the points you accumulate by playing the game you can unlock them for your character and equip one for each event, so if you want to look like Jackie Chan and do the 100m in a Judogi and do hammer throw looking like Sonic, nothing stops you from doing so.
You can either select the practice option 1st or dive directly into an online game, nothing restricts you from doing any events, there are public and private online matches to ensure that you can enjoy this even if your friends are on the other side of the world, although the latency difference might make some event a bit challenging as there are no local servers for those based in South Africa.
If it is your 1st time playing a specific event you will be given a short tutorial on how the controls work, and then after the event, you will unlock tips that will give you the little bit extra you might need to climb the leaderboard. Some events which are similar such as table tennis and normal tennis can be confusing because it’s such a similar game yet the controls for the 2 are different.
You can either select to do a single event, select from premade events or create your own custom events and order.
Some players might feel disappointed knowing that not all the Olympic Sports are in this game such as Gymnastics, but as said earlier, one can see the game was made for family and friends to enjoy together.
Each event will give your star athlete a chance to shine bright with special abilities which can help to pull the event back in your favour or make that crucial moment count towards your favour.
Final Thought: An enjoyable game for the entire family with tips to help give you a competitive edge, and costumes to keep everyone entertained it’s a game worth recommending, although some players might have preferred to have a more classical Olympics type game with their role models in the game.
