If you ever played 2K17 then you probably hate this franchise for making digital game basketball impossible to play (or win at least). Well NBA 2K18 is here to save the day.
Discussing this game would be a bore, everyone knows what 2K throws at you with their releases. The real point is how much have the developers fixed and changed. Well, all I can say is that they have stepped their game up! The physics, realism and even facial animation has been recreated in beautiful harmony to make the perfect game. There will always be haters and fanboys for different franchises, as someone who has played both the NBA titles; this game should silence the competition.
The main menu is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. They have used a layered approach to the pictures that can be seen in the menus, which can be interacted with by moving the right stick in any direction. The animations in the menus are clean and so satisfying! The overall look and feel has improved an insane amount!
The game mode everyone wants to know about; “My Career #RunTheNeighbourhood” has been taken to a whole new level this year with the ability to Free Roam in a social space rather than going from place to place in menus. The MyPark game mode is a part of this whole experience. They have taken your career and made it into a putty that you can mould to exactly what you want. You can walk from getting a new cut to new kicks, straight to MyPark to play with those in your social space. This is a game changer and I look forward to playing this career, NBA 2K18 is still changing the way we play sports games.
Graphically they have enhanced the realism in this game. Just by looking at the faces in the cut scenes you can immediately tell they have gone the extra mile in comparison to the older titles. The facial animation is still lacking but has definitely stepped up since the release of 2K17. There are still some issues that have been inherited from the previous release; one of which being the foul system which was a huge pain point last year and we prayed every release would fix the issue. Keeping in mind that this was written after the first patch was released after one day. I had an issue with animated bodies passing through each other and immediately triggering a personal foul, which I cannot be sure is an issue with the game or just my really poor skill set.
Overall, my first impression is nothing but positive. This is by far the best NBA 2K game ever released and I would go so far as to say one of the best 2K sports games I have ever played. Buy it now and start developing your character in the strange combo of a GTA/NBA mash up experience.
