It’s almost Christmas time(the spending season) and you always wanted a Gaming Laptop(because you are tired of lugging your 20kg pc to the LAN’s), but you just can’t decide what to get for your hard earned money. Well, MSI’s GE72 7RE Apache Pro gaming laptop might be just the laptop you need!

Decked out in brushed aluminium finish, the GE72 7RE Apache Pro looks like it came from a US Warships flight deck. At roughly R28,000(R25,000 at Evetech) you would expect it to perform like a Fighter jet(if you go by looks and price), well it definitely does perform. Kitted out in the latest Intel 7th Gen i7 7700HQ processor, 16gb of DDR4 gaming ram, a Nvidia GTX1050 Ti 4GB(dedicated and not shared RAM) to power the FHD 120Hz gaming screen and a blistering fast 256GB SSD, you can bet your bottom dollar that it does perform!

Games play on the MSI GE72 7RE Apache Pro is a dream, with most games giving you up to 50fps on ultra! We also got a score of 6684 in 3D Mark Fire Strike and about 4000+ in the new DX12 Time Spy Extreme(this was before I did a graphics driver update). So you are guaranteed that you would at least get really good performance out of the GE72 7RE Apache Pro for a couple of years. Sound quality is also very good and has MSI’s Dynaudio speakers…and they have updated it so that there is about a 10dBA audio increase! What does that mean, it is freaking Load as hell! The one other thing that can get a bit loud, is the cooling fan. Look this is also only if you hit the external button to do an instant cool off and you can switch it off anytime.

MSI also included a nifty little app called MSI Dragon Center, from here you can control the lighting for the keyboard(even your SteelSeries mouse), overclocking and get general details like how hot the system currently is running. If you want to use the Laptop for more than just gaming it has the right screen for it. It’s a IPS screen so viewing angles are covered normally up to 170 degrees and if you can get the UHD panel version, you can look at getting a 100% AdobeRGB screen! Calibration of the screen was a breeze with the Dragon Center software(in the True Colour 2.0 panel), as it supports the X-Rite colourimeters.

Overall I was really impressed with the laptop and didn’t find too much wrong with it. The Boost cooling feature does push up the fan speed and in turn the fan noise, but this is only temporary as you can switch it if when you like. Gaming on it was fun and at the price point gives you just the right amount of everything too game to your heart’s content(even do some Content creation). I would recommend this any gamer that wants to get a solid gaming Laptop. This is your local mad scientist signing out.
