As I write this review, I’m also off to a new adventure in my life. Immigrating to Australia. I was very excited that I could still experience Miles Morales while I’m busy with this journey. I thoroughly enjoyed the first instalment of Spider-Man so obviously I was very intrigued to play this one.
As you start the game you get do a little recap on what happened so far, for in case you didn’t get to play the first game or just want a little refresher. It is always a brilliant idea to have this as it helps to set the scene and create more hype for the story that you are about to start.
Miles Morales’ journey is in full swing as you start, he is learning what it means to be a Spider-Man, the great power and the great responsibility and soon he is thrown into the deep-end but with a mentor like Peter Parker he is ready. The story is great, and I enjoy how they bring in the same success of what worked in the first game with some improvements.
The environment looks amazing and I cannot wait to see how it looks on the PS5 since I reviewed this on the PS4 because of my current travelling plans. So yeah, even on the PS4 it still looks incredible so on the next-gen console it will definitely look even better.
The gameplay is very similar to the first game, how Miles moves and swings through the city and even the combat is similar. Miles obviously has some new powers which Peter doesn’t have, and this is where the meat of the differences comes in. Miles has what they call venom abilities, these abilities are like electric/stun powers and as you progress you will unlock some super cool moves and abilities aligned with this. One example is delivering a venom punch that sees Miles charge his venom ability and deliver a super punch dealing big damage on the enemy and can stun them and others around them.
The venom abilities definitely add some new variations to the game so it will feel like the first game but yet it still doesn’t. Apart from the new abilities you also get new suits to unlock, suit powers and gadgets to upgrade which will leave you with an array of things to play around with.
Spider-Man Miles Morales is a fantastic exclusive launch title for the PS5 and will definitely help to sway some decisions of gamers deciding which next-gen console to buy. I also hope that this is the starting benchmark of the exclusive titles we can expect yet again from the PlayStation family.
This game is definitely one of the must have games of the last quarter of 2020 and with the year we had we need titles like this to give us hope for the future of gaming.
