The Logitech G29 Driving Force Steering Wheel is specially made for the PS3 and PS4 and is made of top notch quality to giving you the best driving experience possible on your console.
I was really excited to give this a try and seeing as I have a few games to test it out on the urge inside me was burning to get started. The following day I received Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo (Review to be posted soon), so now I could not wait to get into this. Below is a small paragraph of each game I tested the Wheel on.
Sebastian Loeb Rally EVO
Who doesn’t like Rally? It is an intense Driving experience, getting to know the lingo helps a lot. Your co-driver shouts out what’s up ahead and you just go! With the G29 it brought the Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo to a whole new level. You can feel the force feedback jerk and jump all over the place as you try and keep your car on the course. It impressed me how the G29 knew to adjust the steering to be looser than to a track racing game and it made the experience so much better.
Project Cars is overall racing game for the enthusiast and I was eager to test the G29 out on this. From the get go the steering adjusted to be more stiff than with the rally and with every different car I drove it had a different feel. It make you feel that you are on the track pumping that adrenaline through your veins. It was amazing to get to experience this game with such a wonderfully made steering wheel
Need for Speed (2015)
The last game I tried was Need for Speed. What better way than to test out a steering wheel than to do it racing illegally J (We do not support illegal racing, be responsible and drive safe). He he had to put that in. I was really bummed to find that the steering wheel did not work, I tried everything but the game does not pick up the G29 as a controller. Now I do not know if this is the developer of the game or the manufacturer of the steering wheel whose fault it is but it sucked. In my eyes if you have a racing game then you have to make sure that it supports accessories.
Now back to the G29 Driving Force, below I will add all the specs below of the article for you to check out but here are some nice feature that it has.
Made for PS3 & PS4 – specifically design with the PS consoles in mind but you can also use the G29 on your PC with the Logitech Gaming Software
Dual-Motor Force Feedback – Now I’ve talked about the force feedback a bit above but the technical aspect behind the force feedback being so great is the dual-motor system. This allows for the gamer to feel every slight change when playing the game. You will feel every bump, slip and weight shift.
Quality – Although this is not a feature it is a design aspect. The wheel is covered by hand-stitched leather and the pedals are stainless steel. Inside the wheel shaft is solid steel ball bearings. It also has helical gearing with anti-backlash to give you a smooth steering motion. This is all race quality materials making the G29 last longer and feel legit. The steering wheel also clamps on securely with its fastening clamps to any table you want to use or if you have a Playseat. (I clamped it to an ironing board for testing and it worked great!)
Easy Access Game Controls – All the buttons you need is on the steering wheel so that you do not need a DualShock controller close by for menu interactions and selections. There is also a +/- and a dial to further tune your driving experience.
Steering Excellence – The G29 Driving Force has a rotation of 900 degrees, this is about the same as you will find in your car and gives that realistic motion. It also has a steering wheel stripe in the center that makes it easier to drive and know where you are.
The G29 also works with the Driving Force Shifter Attachment for you would like that manual 6 speed shifting experience, otherwise it does have the tiptronic shifters on the wheel with the optional clutch on the pedals already.
Now I am no expert when it comes to Racing wheels and there are other racing wheels out there that you can get that will have more features and might be better. A lot of people also complained that the G29 is very similar to the G27 and you should rather buy that. Others say to rather buy other brands as they have better technology. On the technical side it is said that the force feedback feels glitch and the steering not smooth at all. I did not have these experiences but as I said I am no expert. Prices factor can also be seen as a con as it will cost you about R4K to own.
I really loved how the Logitech G29 Driving Force reacted to different games and situations, making it feel more realistic than ever to play a racing game on your console. Maybe there are better racing wheels out there that will make me change my mind and say that this is not the best but so far I really enjoyed playing with the G29.
The G29 is a bit costly and I would recommend that if you are in the market for a Racing wheel you need to do some investigation after all everyone has different preferences and needs. Also if you know someone who owns a racing wheel test it out.
