Brigador is an isometric real-time tactical game, and was developed by a four-man studio named Stellar Jockeys. I don’t very often see isometric games anymore. The view-point from these games are rotated slightly to reveal other details of the game’s environment, in comparison to top-down perspective, and gives the game a very retro look, which feels like a blast from the past, and in a good way.
The game is reminiscent of Mech-Warrior, but has other features too. With the vehicle you control, you are able to customise and outfit it with weapons and upgrades. Afterward, you get placed onto a map with enemies, and you then have to eliminate all the enemies, eliminate the enemy captains, or destroying the orbital defense platforms. There is no way to save or restart the game, you need to complete the game in a single sitting. Once you have done so, all your weapons and other unlocked features get carried over to your next playthrough, if you think you are able to brave another one.
GES "Let's Play" - Brigador
Not being able to save or restart, as a main feature of the game, gives the game a unique difficulty which can either be fun or frustrating… or both!
It all depends on the player’s perspective. I found this to be fun, especially considering that each level really does not take an unnecessary amount of time to finish, so you can quickly look forward to what the game will throw at you next.
The gameplay is a lot of fun, the music was fitting, and the retro art and graphics added to the enjoyment the experience.
This game is still in Early-Access, so we look forward to seeing the game in it’s final release.
