Far Cry 6 Review

I’ve always been a massive fan of the Far Cry Series, From when it was still made by Crytek and Far Cry 1 existed, and when Ubisoft took over and then created my personal favourite for the entire series Far Cry 2 came out (Remaster Please!) until today When they released their biggest, most creative project yet. Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 6 takes you to the fictional island of Yara. Yara is primarily modelled after Cuba. It’s important to note that while Yara does resemble and is modelled after Cuba the two countries exist in the same Caribbean region. Ruled by the dictator Anton Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito) who has his own idealistic vision for Yara and his own Viviro Tobacco fields meant to push the country’s GDP from the Third world to First World Status.

The game puts you in the shoes of Dani Rojas. Dani (Male or Female depending on the player’s choice) was born and raised in Yara’s Capital City Esperanza. Dani is a Military dropout who in the beginning of the game did not want to become any sort of revolutionary fighter and just wanted to escape the country and flee to America to begin their new life. Dani eventually gets involved in the Guerilla movement and has the goal to find Anton and end him in the Capital’s City.

The game drops you in an opening sequence where you need to escape guards searching for you, this takes you into stealth mode where you avoid them and crawl through back alleys trying to find your way to the boat and flee Yara. This of course does not go to plan and you end up washed up on a beach on a neighbouring island. For the first time in the Far Cry series, Ubisoft has given the protagonist more than just a name and a backstory. Far Cry 6 gives Dani Rojas a name, a face, a personality, and most importantly: a voice. You can now view your own character in third person, albeit just in the Guerilla camps but this still does make the character feel more than just a name. Far Cry 6 lets you view your character in cutscenes and even used mocap models to create a real and lifelike Dani. You can actually feel for the first time that Dani isn’t just fighting to stay alive, more that they’re fighting for a cause, a hope for a future and dictatorship free Yara.

Far Cry 6 has now introduced a ton of customization, Everything from the clothes you wear that give you perks like resistance to fire and poison, more ammo capacity and my personal favourite the parkour set which gives you alot of additional stamina. The game also lets you customize your weapons, everything from the sights, to the ammo types to homemade silencers and ammo clips.

This is a welcome addition to the game and just gives you that feeling of success after you collect all the parts to make a specific Mod to your weapon. The game also includes Guerilla specific weapons called Resolver weapons and more importantly a supremo backpack. The backpack itself give you bonus abilities for your character, such as enhanced stealth, improved health regeneration and even a Lock-On missile launcher backpack. I personally found the missile launcher backpack to be the best when it came down to having to fight against the Yaran Military forces helicopters. The supremo backpacks assist you in making any playstyle possible.

Far Cry 6 wouldn’t be complete without your animal companions, and Far Cry 6 is of no exception. Now called Amigos. Far Cry 6 lets you unlock multiple amigos through the playthrough, Starting off with Guapo the lovable gator, to Chicarron the rooster which may have assisted in starting the revolution, to Chorizo the modified sausage dog. and finally yes, you can pet all of the amigos including Guapo the Gator.
