After 3 years of not playing any new F1 games, I got the chance to play the new F1 2017 game from Codemasters and boy is there a lot of improvements!
So most of these improvements come in the game design it self and what you get with the game, the first of these improvements is that in your career mode you actually have more of a story going on. You are basically a new recruit to your chosen F1 Team. You select your avatar for the game and for the first time in F1 racing games you can actually pick a female driver! After you selected your avatar, you can select your helmet(including community created helmets) and your favorite race number(mine was my birthday…hey I think it’s a lucky number!).

As you play in career mode you start to unlock points that you can use in your R&D department. There are more than 115 R&D branches that you can unlock to push your car and your team to the top. Another feature in the career mode(that I think is awesome) is the fact that you get invites to invitational events. At the Invitational events, you get the chance to drive classic cars, one of them is Ayrton Senna’s McLaren MP4/4! For me, that was really rush to drive. Speaking of classic cars, the game includes 12 classic cars one of which can only be unlocked if you get the Special edition of F1 2017.

The driving mechanisms of the game to me feels really improved from the last F1 game that I played. The cars feel more responsive and for amateur drivers like me a bit better assists. The tracks have also been beautifully recreated in the game. There are about 20 official 2017 formula 1 race tracks in F1 2017 with four additional shortened tracks that you can enjoy. The shortened tracks is also a first for the F1 series.

Overall I am really happy with the game, with a great improvement in game dynamics, classic cars, and a better Career Mode. There isn’t really much to complain about the game. I would really recommend this to any F1 enthusiast or racing sim gamer and if your not then give the game a try(I know you would love it). This is your local mad scientist signing out….time to go raid a BT Games for a steering wheel!
