Dragon Quest is a long-standing RPG series and one that is loved by many. I was really excited to get started on the new instalment Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

I haven’t played all of the Dragon Quest game, I have probably only played the last 4 titles and most of them was on Nintendo systems. I was really keen to get going on my PS4 with the latest one and really enjoyed playing it.

Dragon Quest XI is set in the world of Erdrea and the story begins where Dundrasil is being invaded by an army of monsters. The main character, you, was still an infant and it shows how you mother saves your life and you end up floating away on a river. Year’s later when you come of age things start to awaken and you leave your adopted village to begin your journey of discovery. You meet interesting characters along the way, some friends and some foes, but still interesting non the less.

The gameplay is relatively the same as previous games in the series where you can explore the world and when you encounter an enemy it will go into a turn-based battle mode. Action in battles are taken in turn and runs the same as with most JRPG games where you can use items, powers or different attacks. This title has a more modern feel to it than previous games I played on the 3DS system and I enjoyed the free roam a lot more here.

Dragon Quest XI has come a long way and I actually feel like I want to play the entire game through without it feeling like an arduous task. This is a great RPG series to have in your collection and anime fans will truly enjoy the style.
