Cyanide & Happiness – Freakpocalypse Review

Meet Coop, the character you are playing as who is the sidekick of Psionic Psteve who invaded your school to try and stop Dr Dropout, and get a prom date after doing so, unfortunately, this was just a daydream you had during class as the unpopular ginger in this story, shortly after being ganged up by members of the class you get sent to the principal’s office where your 1st puzzle starts.

Not only would you have the main quests to do which ended up looking like an average day for an ginger headed orphan who is having a hard day at school and home, but you also have side quests you can get from talking to strangers or the only girl that doesn’t mind talking to you.

The puzzles might not always be as one would think they would be, and from experience, take the hint part in your notebook more serious as just a guideline, they end up giving you a clear indication of what you’d have to do or find to accomplish this task.

Even though this being a puzzle game that not every person might have been hoping for when they heard of a Cyanide and Happiness game the cutscenes and conversations do reward the effort you end up putting into a simple puzzle that you over-thought, or just didn’t think enough at all.

This chapter of the game ends as the apocalypse breaks out and you are left with a “to be continued” message on the screen leaving one curious as to know what will happen in the next one to follow up with the story.

Final thoughts: I was extremely excited for this game but did not reach my expectations fully as I did not expect it to of been this type of game, comedy definitely makes one laugh but felt as if the devs might have held back a bit on the more dark humour some people love them for on their clips.

Good

  • Typical Cyanide & Happiness type humor
  • Enjoyed interacting with the characters from the Clips

Bad

  • Story is a bit short
  • Might end up overthinking or not thinking clearly on certain puzzles
