It’s BOOM time – Crackdown 3 has launched! We couldn’t be more excited to have you join the ranks of the Agency’s finest. Together we can liberate New Providence and take down the TerraNova Corporation. Or if you’d rather go head-to-head with other Agents, jump into the Wrecking Zone and experience the rush of Cloud-powered destruction!
I’m just gonna admit this from the start. TERRY CREWS is character the game! I’m sold!
Oh wait. He died…
End cut-scene, he lives again! Yay!
Okay lets get into it.
So Crackdown 3 is marketed as a fast paced 3rd person shooter, this is true, its 3rd person and as fast paced as it gets.
I accidentally left the game open without pausing it, I was reminded by my commander to “keep moving”. A few seconds later the second taunt was fired off with “c’mon agent, you scared?”.
So my advice would be to keep on moving as I suspect the commanders taunts will only get worse.
The graphics are not cutting edge, but I think its done this way to keep the original feel. It feels Borderlands like, but a little smoother while the lighting effects are pretty epic, almost Tron like.
Well that’s it for the comparisons.
The story starts off a bit shaky, but soon enough you find yourself in the familiar “almost killed good guy gets revived and goes on a mission to get the baddies” feel. For the genre, it ticks all the boxes. Its fun, beautiful and keeps you coming back for more. The classic “boss battles” are really fun and I’m pretty sure some of those bosses were sporting strong Afrikaans accents, this was quite amusing.
All in all Crackdown 3 is a great game with quite a few multiplayer options too. You can either start off the campaign on your own, or meet up with a buddy and do a co-op campaign. For those that prefer the thrill of an online kill, Wrecking Zone is where you want to be. A 5v5 pvp match to squash other players and to prove your online dominance(not me though, I suck at multiplayer).
There is nothing more to say, if you were a fan of the previous Crackdown games, go get it!
Go get it anyway!
- Those boss battles man
- Fast paced, it doesn’t give you time to get bored
- Terry Crews
- All those cutscenes
- Wrecking zone could do with a few tweaks
