Our Cosplayer of the Month for November 2016 is of the male persuasion this time round. It’s so cool to see this guy’s cosplays as he chooses his characters from such a wide variety of genres. We had a chat to Nicholas from Netas Cosplay about his cosplay passions and what goes on behind the scenes for him….
Tell us a bit more about the person/people behind the cosplay persona?
I’m an application analyst (a nice and fancy way to say customer support). I love being with my friends and having a good laugh
How and when did you get started in Cosplay and why do you enjoy it?
Well I always wanted to start cosplaying but didn’t know where to begin. My good good friend Jeanine (Kali Kitty) actually helped me with my first cosplay (Eren Jaeger) about 3 years ago. I enjoy cosplaying, because it a good chance to push ones boundaries on crafting and how to tackle challenges.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of cosplaying? If yes, please tell us more about it
I love gaming whether it be on console or pc. I used to draw quite a bit and I love making things with my hands.
What was the first Costume you wore for Cosplay and did you make it yourself?
My first cosplay was Eren Jaeger from Attack on Titan. No I didn’t make it myself, all the praise goes to Jeanine (Kali Kitty) and her amazing work on the jackets, straps and cloaks.
What is the one thing that you try and avoid when making a new costume?
To deviate from the original plan
Your cosplay portfolio features a wide variety of cosplay characters. What type of genre is your favorite to Cosplay, and why?
Wow um to be honest I don’t have a favorite type of genre. I like all genres because I love characters from each of the genres
Every Cosplayer has a favourite part of creating a costume or something they are really good at, what is yours?
My favorite part of making the costume is when it is finished and it is exactly how you planned or even better than you planned
What is your most difficult challenge in creating a costume?
Probably sewing and prop making
Do you have any “war stories” or scars from previous injuries that happened during crafting or constructing a new costume?
Haha well most of the scars have healed over except for on my palm of my left hand where I fought a rogue soldering iron XD
Which international con would you really love to go to and why?
I would love to go to any Comic Con in the states. I would love to show international people my skills with my cosplays and to represent the SA cosplay community
South Africa’s convention scene has been growing leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. Do you have any tips for the other cosplayers as to how to stay comfortable throughout the day?
Firstly I must say, STAY HYDRATED!! Unfortunately I tend to forget about this and I pay for it.
Secondly if you are hot in the costume, get yourself little pocket fans to cool yourself down or look for me and I am more than happy to be your fan person

Complete the sentence: I was walking towards the spaceship when…… a tidal wave could be seen in the distance. I hobble, woddle and bounce towards the spaceship to try escape the wave of death. All is quiet, no roar of the wave just the sound of my breathing fills my ears. I reach the starship and hurry to close the door and brace for the impact. I see the wave rushing towards me and………stay tuned for the next episode next week XP
