Chernobylite Console Edition Review

Welcome to Pripyat comrades, everyone knows what happened to Chernobyl with the power plant, and now we have The Best Polish Indie Game 2019 coming to Xbox and PS4 and soon to arrive on PS5 and Xbox series X/S later this year.

Chernobylite puts you in the shoes of Igor, whose wife disappeared 30 years ago in Pripyat and you have returned to uncover the truth while trying to survive the harsh climate and have your beautiful wife Tatyana’s Voice constantly speaking to you, you see visions of her then they fade away or turn into a zombie that is half set ablaze, whether these are all visions or reality you would have to uncover for yourself.

It starts with you being on the train, walking through the forest following your wife, shortly after you got trapped in your mind and being forced to craft the portal gun which seems to of caused a lot of anger, or so your colleagues experienced in front of your eyes.

With the game having Unreal Engine 4 the graphics even on a PS4 which a lot would consider to be outdated still looks great, having a First Person Shooter with an RPG mix is a fresh and new experience as you fight for medical supplies, food, the Military guarding the area, zombies, radiation and other unspeakable horrors.

Once you reach your hideout, you can craft benches, beds, décor and more to improve the quality of your hideout such as comfort and rest, you can harvest materials while on missions to either craft serums to reduce radiation on your own body to move past security checks, or to restore your health, or you could send your comrades on missions instead, but know that they might get hurt, captured or killed during these missions, since the game wants to give a real-life experience be prepare for your comrades to betray you as well and not just fight by your side, however how you handle your comrades will also increase or decrease their relationship with you. The interactions and decisions on your answers make you sink even more into the story and become one with Igor.

The controls for the PS4 some might feel that not being able to hip fire could be a pain as if you are not aiming down a scope, the firing button becomes a melee button, the game does seem to have some bugs that I am sure the devs would still resolve due to this being a new release on Console such as when you are busy hiding from the guards you might get stuck underneath the train and would have to reload your last checkpoint.

Final Thoughts: Some might feel extremely lost initially in the game, others might feel that the controls are a bit confusing or complex for a Console to be played on, but once you get used to it you can’t help but enjoy the game, will recommend this game to anyone looking for an “out of the normal” game and still get to enjoy an FPS type game in the process.

Good

  • Unique Story Line
  • Graphics really impressive for a PS4
  • FPS with the complexity of an RPG with a hint of Jumpscares will keep you entertained for hours

  • Controls might be confusing/frustrating for some players

Lover of MOBAs and FPS type games, very competitive type player who enjoys games that also has some complexity added to them, would spend hours on end farming on a game such as Warframe, BDO, Elite Dangerous or any other game in that line.
