It’s time for COD players to rejoice and unite! Yes the new COD is here, this time we are going to where only a few have gone before.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare takes place in space, yes you heard right, COD in space. The campaign is about Captain Nick Reyes of the SCAR (Special Combat Air Recon) and how he battles against the SDF (Settlement Defence Front) who want to rule the Solar System. It is the first COD game that Infinity Ward developed and they have a three-year deal for COD games.
Throughout the campaign you will visit different planets, satellite stations and asteroids, giving you different gameplay mechanics. Zero Gravity and a grappling hook is introduced to players for the first time in the series and adds a lot of change in the environments and dynamics. The main focus of the gameplay is FPS and aerial combat. Nick’s transforming fighter craft is called the Jackal and you will use this in your aerial combats, the scenes between aerial and FPS is seamless with no loading screens.
As always with COD games, Infinite Warfare looks amazing. The graphics are on par with the best out and the game just draws you in, with its rich story and effects.
If the Campaign doesn’t keep you as busy as you would like, then you can also play the Zombies Mode. What would COD be without a Zombie mode? You can lay this mode online, by yourself or Co-Op. The gameplay is unique for Zombies mode as you are no longer in space, instead you are now in Spaceland theme park and in the 80’s. There are new features to this mode that includes sharing points and teambuy doors, and then there are Fate and Fortune cards. These card can shape and change the gameplay, it might be in your favour and it might not.
Obviously a lot of work was put into the Multiplayer mode as this is the bread and butter for COD. One of the biggest changes here is the change in the class system, they are now called Combat Rigs instead of classes. So similar to the specialist system in BO3, there are 6 rigs in total. Warfighter, Merc, FTL, Stryker, Phantom and Synaptic, all of them have different loadouts, abilities and weapons.
Here are some more details on the rigs:
The Warfighter is designed for a mid-range and assault style gamer. Players should equip the Warfighter Rig to support the team by getting fast kills, quickly getting to an objective, and to always being on the offensive.
- Combat Focus
A prototype battle rig, it utilizes bleeding edge technology to ensure combat advantage. Best for the player who is more of a run-and-gunner and who wants to get up close and personal with the enemy.
- FTL Jump
- Phase Shift
- Power Slide
Focused on heavy defense and suppressive fire. Best for the more defensive-minded player who loves big weapons that deliver max damage, and is designed to clear enemy threats quickly and with authority.
- Steel Dragon
- Bull Charge
- Reactive Armor
- Man at Arms
Specializes in concealment and long-range engagements. The stealth oriented sniper should employ this rig in combat.
- Ballista EM3
- Active Camo
- Marked Target
- Heightened Senses
Equipped with gear for enemy suppression and squad support. The tactical team-focused player should use this rig on the battlefield.
- Gravity Vortex Gun
- Micro Turret
- Trophy Drone
A C6 Class remote operated drone, it is optimized for speed and close quarters combat. Best for the player who favors melee and SMG-ranged combat.
- Combat Burst
So tons of rigs for you to experiment with and see which style will suite you most. Infinite Warfare also introduces a new weapon crafting system. In a match, you earn Salvage points, which then can be used to purchase Prototype Weapons and variants of existing in-game weapons. For each gun, there are four types of prototypes, classified into four groups, namely Common, Rare, Legendary and Epic. This of which grant players gameplay advantages known as the Gun Perks. Scorestreaks also make a return in Infinite Warfare. Scoresteaks offers perks such as the ability to deploy UAV and counter-UAV, and more for you to discover.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare lives up to the standard of COD games, the different gameplay elements of space, planets and asteroids offer something different. Infinite Ward has done a great job in their first COD game and hopefully they can only improve form here. From my point of view COD players will be happy for another year.
