The assault of fear is a feeling well known to many, and there are many different kinds of fear. However, as Lovecraft said, “the oldest and strongest kind of fear, is the fear of the unknown.”
“In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming”
Calling all Lovecraftian horror fans and enthusiasts! It’s a good day to be a fan of H.P. Lovecraft’s work. Since about 3 months ago, Cyanide Studios announced that they were working on a new Call of Cthulhu survival horror game, and they released two screenshots of the settings and environment. Many people saw and marveled at this prospect, myself included, and were following news on it as closely as possible. Now the Facebook page alone has reached over 30,000 followers.
Based off of one of Lovecraft’s most successful short-stories, “The Call of Cthulhu”, written in 1926, the story has become a favourite among many Horror fans, and found itself becoming the inspiration for the 2005 game title, “Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth”, developed by Headfirst Productions. This game received mostly good reviews and has also since continued to “raise awareness” of the famous story.
Cédric Lagarrigue, President of Focus Home Interactive, said the following:
Cyanide has been wanting to make a Call of Cthulhu adaptation for years. They now hold all the cards to create a game that will please fans of the Cthulhu mythos, as well as players eager for rich and original gaming experiences.
Based off of this statement, we can surmise that Cyanide Studios will be taking this endeavour seriously. Ever since the 2 screenshots that we were teased with, they have released a few more, and judging from the overall feel of the setting they have created, I can see they are taking a lot of fine details into consideration. Notice the green hues in every image. This is nodding at Lovecraft’s own words in his story, and I quote “There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults.”
And if this isn’t enough, Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive have released the trailer for this game at E3.
Have a look!
It seems that this game is not joking around. I am a huge fan of survival horror, and I am really looking forward to what this game has in store. I applaud Cyanide Studios for it’s hard work so far. Be sure to check out their website here. The game is scheduled for release in 2017 on consoles and PC.
