If you haven’t played one the of Telltale’s awesome games yet, then now is the time! Their previous games have put them on the map as one of the most creative story telling game companies and now we see them take on one of the biggest stories in our culture, Batman!
I’m a huge fan of Telltale’s games, they are entertaining, fun and puts you in control. Yes, most people will argue but is it really a game and if you are one of them let us check the following characteristics of a game:
|Characteristic||Does Telltale Games have it|
|A game contains a great story||Yes|
|Let’s you control a character/s||Yes|
|Great Sound, graphics and music||Yes|
|Completing actions, puzzles etc. (Game Dynamics)||Yes|
So the answer is yes they are games, we might put them in a different genre but it still remains a game. Now let’s get onto Batman The Telltale Series.
The game will consist of 5 episodes and believe me the episodes always end on a cliff hanger. The first episode is call Realm of Shadows and it introduces you to the world of Batman, you will play as both Batman and Bruce Wayne and we will meet characters we all love from the comic books: Alfred, Harvey Dent, Selina Kyle, Vicky Vale and more.
The look of the game keeps to the cartoonish style that we have become so accustomed to with Telltale and it fits in very well with Batman’s universe, seeing as it does come from Comics. The story of the first episode is of Bruce Wayne coming to terms on how to balance his life as both the billionaire and the Bat. We also get to learn (again) about his parents’ death but there is a twist and some secrets of his parents that Bruce did not know. How will he react and act with this information and how will it affect Gotham?
The gameplay is the same as some of the other games where most of your actions will be to decide the way the story will flow by choosing conversation options and also a lot of QTE actions. I hope they put some more free moving scenes in like with Tales from the Borderlands, in later episodes but we will have to wait and see.
The episodes usually take about 2 – 4 hours to play through and after the episode finishes you will want more. I personally cannot wait for the 2nd episode to see how my story will flow and continue.
Some of the fun things Telltale does with their games is that at the end of the episode you will see how the choices you made compares to that of the community, you can also look at extras like character info’s and videos.
Another great thing to do is also to replay the game and choose different options to see how the story differs but I usually wait for the complete “season” to do this.
Another great Title from Telltale and anyone that is a fan of Batman needs this in their gaming arsenal.
