ASUS ROG STRIX XG17AHP Review

What happens if you wanted to take your PlayStation or Xbox on vacation with you(let’s ignore the Insurance nightmare for now), you would need a good screen right? Well ASUS has brought out a mobile display catered towards gamers called the ROG Strix XG17AHP. Asus ROG Strix XG17AHP

The ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHP is a 1080p 240hz portable display that has a 7800mAh battery and will work with almost any current display input(thanks to the Mini HDMI and Display Port on the unit). The LCD that ASUS used in the XG17AHP is based on a 17.3″ IPS LED panel, not only does it have good viewing angles it also has 100% sRGB coverage.Asus ROG Strix XG17AHP

Being a 240hz screen I plugged it into my PC and low and behold I got 239hz as a refresh rate on the screen! I fired up Fortnite and got smooth frame rates all the time while playing. The one thing that I noted was that it is not a very bright display in direct daylight, this is due to it only having a 1000:1 contrast ratio and could only go up to 300nits. What also helps is that the display has Adaptive-Sync(similar to AMD’s Freesync and Nvidia’s G-Sync). However, I do not plan to play in very bright environments when using this screen. Being an ASUS display you can also look forward to GamePlus, Game Visual, Shadow Boost to name a few.Asus ROG Strix XG17AHP

The ROG Strix XG17AHP is also a very good looking display, it even has some RGB built into the unit(the ROG Logo on the backlights up). The XG17AHP can be made to stand in two ways, firstly with the SmartCover that is supplied with the unit(so it would look similar to a cover that you would use with a Tablet) or with a small tripod. The tripod stand is made of solid aluminium branded with the ROG, it even extends up(this is great if you want to use it with your notebook). The only thing that was not possible on the tripod is to tilt the unit.Asus ROG Strix XG17AHP

Overall I was pleased with the ASUS ROG Strix XG17AHP, it gives you a good view size, massive refresh rate and is really portable. The only slight negative for the unit would be that we don’t have local pricing or availability yet and that I won’t suggest that you use it in brightly lit areas. It is great for gamers on the go and works very well with the latest consoles. As a second screen for a programmer or gamer as well.
