We visit Egypt like never before in a video game or even in a movie. Assassin’s Creed Origins is set in the Ptolemaic period when Egypt reign was great and vast. Will exploring the Origins of the Assassin’s Creed series bring some new things to light?
In Egypt, we get to learn how the Brotherhood of Assassins started and how the conflict began with The Order of the Ancients, later to become the Templar Order. This is one of the best stories in the Assassin’s Creed series, the only one that comes close in my opinion is Black Flag. From the start you can see how much effort went into the 4 years of development for Origins.
Ubisoft Montreal re-created Egypt in full glory, it has differences across the regions/cities. The colors are intriguing and sets a great contrast against the desert backdrop. From steering boats to flying as Senu or riding your Camel, you will experience Egypt in tons of different ways. Senu is a great edition to the gameplay and I even saw one of my fellow game review journalists tweet that he wishes he can have a Senu in real life and tag his enemies ;p
Bayek is an awesome main character and right off the bat you get drawn into his story that is full of emotion and you will want to find out more. It is a very emotional journey that you will take to see Bayek become the first Assassin. The main story also involves tracking down the main members of the Order of the Ancients and in Egypt they are usually given a nickname of an animal like the Snake or the Jackal.
A lot of new gameplay mechanics have been brought into Assassin’s Creed Origins and even though some of the new things do not work 100% some actually makes it better, the combat for instance feels like you have more control on your combat. It can take a while getting used to different weapons but soon you will become a great fighter like the Medjay you are.
The skill/abilities upgrades and equipment system is also improved with you being able to get and change weapons more frequently and do some great improvements with crafting. The skills you unlock feel like they have more impact and you will want to reach the next level just to unlock that next cool ability or skill.
Assassin’s Creed Origins looks insanely beautiful and even though I can spend hours just roaming through the scenery and taking it all in, the story will take hold of you and you will want to find out how it ends. An amazing journey and well worth being the 10th title in the Assassin’s Creed Series.
