There are less 21 days until Cape Towns cosplayers get to compete in the Regional Championship of Cosplay, where the winner will not only get the title of Cape Towns Champion but the honour of representing Cape Town at the finals of the African Championship prelims at Comic-Con Africa in September! We are therefore excited to announce the Championship judges for Comic-Con Cape Town x FanCon!
Travis Hornsby (He/They)
Travis Hornsby (He/They) is a rogue yogi pole-dancing clown based in Cape Town. Character and mask work is central to their creative practice; with credits in film, theatre, and installation projects. Travis gleefully lurks in the domains of hybridity, reference and presence, and cannot wait to bask in the excellence of South Africa’s top-tier cosplayers!
Lloyd Kandlin (He/Him)
From Lloyd Kandlin early days doing acrobatics in the circus, to designing and building sets, creating and designing costumes for film & theater shows – name it and Lloyd might have done it. He started conceptualizing and creating costumes at the age of 12. From being a hobby to creating fantastical costumes, this has developed into a flourishing business. Creations are varied from theatrical acrobatic costumes, on-stage elegant gowns, and National costumes for beauty pageants, and themed parties to eccentric characters, animal costumes, and Cosplay.
Odidi Mfenyana (He/Him/She/Her)
Odidi Mfenyana is a multidisciplinary performing artist with substantial work experience in events co-cordination, production management and public relations. Born in Cape Town started his professional career in 1994 at Artscape (then Nico Malan Theatre). His career has seen him work extensively on South African and International film and television. In 2021 ODIDIVA appeared as sassy Transgender Female Nurse K in the quirky off-beat comedy on Netflix in Angeliena A Movie. On South Africa’s longest-running online radio station, specialising in Electronic Dance Music; www.muthafm.com, you can listen to “SPARKLE & TWIRL with Odidiva” Wednesdays 3pm to 6pm.
Angie McGrath (She/Her)
Angie McGrath is the Marketing Coordinator for Labelling, Sewing, and Craft at Brother International South Africa and currently studying her honours in Business Management through the University of South Africa (UNISA). She has spent the majority of her career in the IT industry, gaining experiences in areas such as gaming, craft, and social media. If Angelique could be any character, she would be Phoenix from X-Men.
Leon Chiro (He/Him)
Leon Chiro is an Italian professional cosplayer and cosplay judge. He is also a pro wrestler. The majority of his cosplays originate from popular anime and video games. His first cosplay was Tidus from Final Fantasy.
Elizabeth Rage (She/Her)
Elizabeth Rage is a Professional cosplayer and costume designer from the USA.
Entries for the Regional Championships of Cosplay at Comic Con Cape Town x FanCon 2023 close on 20 April 2023! There will be no entries accepted on the day!
