The Acer Aspire R7 notebook is possibly my favourite notebook right now. Mostly because if you tilt the screen a certain way it begins to resemble the Starship Enterprise. It’s a bit more than a pretty face though. It’s also award winning and recently added to its tally when it scooped up a 2014 iF Product Design Award. The Awards have close on 3249 entries across 17 categories. These entries are then judged by some 50 global design experts on criteria which includes design quality, choice of materials, degree of innovation, finish, environmental impact, functionality and universal design.
Did I mention the R7 can be made to look like the Starship Enterprise?
It’s a rad notebook, with a 15.6 inch full HD touchscreen. It’s ability to resemble my favourite space explorer is courtesy of the Ezel™ hinge. The keyboard is also positioned closer to you, which I find so much easier to use than other notebooks that insist on putting that annoying scrolling pad right under my thumbs. It’s already won a Red Dot Award, Design & Engineering Award – CES Innovations and a Computex Design & Innovation Award.
The R7 wasn’t the only big winner from the Acer stable. Acer’s Liquid Z5 smartphone, TravelMate P645 notebook and K137 projector also scooped up awards in their categories.
