The Inklings are back and this time more ink will be spilled as again, the Great Zapfish has been stolen.
The first game made a great impression and even though the Wii U console didn’t perform that well, Splatoon did. Splatoon was well received by everyone and it was great to see some new innovation in an online shooter IP. With release, the game feature no 2 in sales in the UK just under The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and it was the fastest selling Wii U game.
Now enough about the series and where it started, let’s dive into the new game. Splatoon 2 sets to further the success of the first game with some new feature and fixing bugs. The game has definitely been upgraded to be on par with today’s standards and looks to be one of the cornerstone games for the Nintendo Switch.
If you do not know Splatoon then here is a little explanation of what it is. Splatoon is a 3rd person online multiplayer shooter. You control an Inkling which you can customise after level 4 with better equipment and “Fresh” clothes. In teams of 4 you take on other teams in battle spewing our paint form your weapons to attack opponents or colour terrain.
As an Inkling, you can morph form humanoid form to squid form. In squid form you can hide in your team’s paint and replenish your ink supplies, you can also “swim” up walls and movement is much faster. In Humanoid form is where you attack and spray ink everywhere. In Splatoon 2 there are new Primary, Sub and Special weapons like dual pistols, being able to dodge rolls and jetpacks.
The great game modes return like Turf War for regular battles with rotations of Splat Zones, Tower Control and Rainmaker for Ranked battles which are now ranked individually. Splat Fests are also making a return which will feature special events to partake in.
There is a new mode called Salmon Run where you play Co-Op with a team of four players against waves of enemies. A small single player campaign is also featured again where you will battle through various level fighting the evil Octarians.
Splatoon 2 requires an online connection for Multiplayer but support Local LAN or WLAN play as well. The game also supports Amiiboes which will unlock custom looks for your Inklings.
Splatoon 2 is a great game which continues the success of the first release, it is such a light and enjoyable theme but still very competitive and worthy to take serious in the Esports world. If you have a Nintendo Switch then this Flagship worthy Title needs to be in your cart already.
