A First Person Tactical Shooter, you play as Jon, a soldier looking for his missing brother. He is sent on a mission to stabilize the Georgian Separatists cells, along with his own agenda.
Jon’s brother was abducted in Russia two years prior while they both successfully completed a mission but was then ambushed by unknown special forces in which Robert (the Brother) was then taken.
Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is the first game in the series to feature an open world, it still has a structured story/main mission but you are free to roam the lands and do some side missions. With this open world map, you get a vehicle/jeep to drive to get to places quicker, every time you exit a safe house the vehicle/jeep will be waiting for you.
Missions are mainly split between 3 differences, Target, Execute and Survive but you can approach and complete these missions with any play style you prefer. You will earn experience points in 3 bands, Sniper, Ghost and Warrior. You level up skills in these trees to improve Jon’s skills or unlock new ones.
At the workbench, you can craft items to use in the field and as you progress in the game the more items will become available. Different ammo will give you more options on how to take on missions. Other items like armor or grenades and assist you greatly. If you don’t have enough resources to craft items, you can always buy the items as well if you have the credits.
A new addition to your arsenal is the drone, you can now fly a drone to survey an area, tag enemies and see the lay of the land. The drone can also be upgrade with new equipment/enhancements in the workbench like night vision or a luring mechanism.
The graphics are really great for the game, I found myself a few times just standing around to look at the environment and scenery. The audio is also good and I love it when developers uses the speaker in the PS4 controller intelligently. When you speak to another soldier over the radio their voice will come from the PS4 controller instead of the default speakers.
This is the first game in the series that I played and I am quite impressed. From what I read up on the previous games there is a lot of improvement on this game and if you take it that it is not a main stream game it is doing really well.
A great game for the Sniper fan, or even the gamer that likes mercenary games and FPS with a little open world. Well worth trying out and having a look at.
