If you are not a gambler, but you enjoy the occasional viewing of horse racing as well as a game of solitaire once in a while then you will definitely enjoy Pocket card jockey.

Obviously this is an animated game but boy is it fun and addictive.

The game’s basic idea is to race horses by playing games of solitaire. Each game of solitaire that you play will determine how much power or stamina your horse gains or loses. If you play your card game poorly then your horse will perform poorly.

The characters are a bit corny but super funny. You start off by choosing your gender and the game makes it clear that if you are female it does not change how the game is played. After you have chosen that then you are directed to your trainer. He will give you a horse to ride and he prompts you about which races you will be running and who the owners are of each horse.

Your guide for the game is a horse called Horse-off-course. A funny little guy that pops up every time you need to learn something new and he also pops up when you have lost a race to tell you why you have lost and what you did wrong. Sometimes this can get a bit annoying so if you do not want to receive his prompt at that time then you just press X and he will cease his banter.

You start the race with a solitaire game called START!, each letter represents a different number of orbes and the more orbes you can find on one card the better your starting run will be. Each race has a certain number of games of solitaire you need to play to achieve your optimum race speed. Within your race you have an ideal area within which you can run at optimum speed. By moving within this area you can easily win your game. With that said though you will also need to make sure you play your solitaire games well because if you do not then your horse will get upset and that will cause you to lose stamina which in turn will cause your horse to lose the race.

Developer GAME FREAK Inc. have really hit it off with this game and they have done it well. The graphics are beautiful and during the time when you see your progress you can make out all the details of your horse and jockey.

A great game and a lot of fun too. I suggest if you are one of us that enjoys a game of solitaire then this game is for you.
