NeverGone is a 2D mobile “beat-em up” title that is not afraid to push the boundaries of graphical chaos and supernatural mythos. The game is centered around the return of Vampires to the living world, which has drawn society into spiritual warfare. This is an era known by as the 2nd Holy War, and you play as a freshly awoken Vampire “legend” known as Dawn.

The developers, Hippie Game Inc. very confidently claim, “We pour all our creative ideas and energy into the development of Never Gone to give you a wonderful gaming experience. And with the help of Therion on music, Never Gone will surely be a feast for your ears!”. This is something I can also very confidently say, they achieve. Whilst the game is released for public play, it is also still in active developmental stage, where the developers call on the input and feedback from current players via the in-game community to make tweaks and improvements to NeverGone.

The game has two currencies, being Gold and Crimson Gems. Gold is used to purchase common gear and potions, as where Gems are used for more specialized items. As mentioned, the developers rely on player feedback, and reward all players who interact on the community page with Gold and Gems for their effort, which in turn allows you to gain an advantage in the game with “pimped up gear”.

The game is a fighting styled RPG, where you use on-screen thumb buttons to move, fight, block and activate special attacks to unleash devastating combos to hordes of supernatural and demonic forces. Your character is on a personal mission to free the living world from the rising threat of these monsters, and each stage gets ridiculously more difficult with boss fights nearly every third level in. Bosses are very skill and gear demanding, and there is no grey area, either you are strong enough, or you are not. Which is where the Gems come in very handy, affording you some trinkets and gear upgrades to carry you through.

Originally released in Chinese, the game has been very “loosely” translated into English, which can be improved upon, but still does not detract from the game’s strong points. The strongest and most impressive point for me was the ability to record your in-game gameplay to share on social platforms and brag with your ability to chain the most insane combo amounts to compare with other community players. Below is a video of my gameplay recorded using the in-game recorder with my iPhone 6s Plus.

You can easily upload your game-profile to the iCloud on iOS, making sure you do not lose your progress should you change devices. It is also tablet friendly. The music and visuals are seriously incredible. You can play without headphones and still enjoy the game, but I would recommend you use some high quality headphones, turn off the lights and get transported to the chaotic Gothic world of crypt fiends to fully enjoy this game.

About Mirage

I pretty much started gaming on Famicom! For those who didnt survive the flood on the ark with Noah, this was an 1980's 8-bit console using interchangeable cartridges. (Google it, it will blow your mind!). From there things got a bit more hardcore, and I started playing DOS-Based games, (Again...google is your friend.) and that progressed through Windows 3.1, until the present where I enjoy intense graphics, captivating story-lines, alternate endings and mind-numbing grinds on both PS3 and Windows PC. When I'm not gaming, I am a club DJ that enjoys playing House, Progressive, Trance, Tech and Minimal. I love watching Anime, my favorite shows are Naruto and Bleach. Epic, I know.
