Mordheim, a once thriving city amongst a war-torn world was the last bastion of peace. The growth of Mordheim was a wonder to behold and a jewel to the people, but as time progressed, greed, treachery and evil sunk its vile fingers in. One fateful day, a dark omen appeared in the sky that would bring the proud and poisoned city to knees. A two tailed fire orb burned its way through the sky, believed to be the very hammer of Sigma, it stuck the city with a devastating blow and laid waste to everything its fiery touch and killing all that it touched.

From the ashes, came a rock on immense value, Wyrdstone, capable of curing the sick, healing the wounded and turning base metals into gold, Mordheim became a battleground of warring factions, each bent on gaining control of the newly found precious resource. Opportunist mercenaries, seeking riches and glory were the humans; shadows and sewers spewed the venomous rat-men known as Skaven; the proud Sisters of Sigma sought to cleanse the city of evil and from the Warp itself came the legions of Chaos. Each war band seeking a goal in their own right, would lay the lives down to gain control of the city and in turn, the Wyrdstone. Their war would turn the Mordheim into the City of the Damned.

Mordheim: City of the Damned is a hardcore turn-based strategy. You will need to manage your war band, pay their wages and ensure that they are in healthy fighting condition to give you the best possible chance at destroying your foes. Once you have mustered your merry band of thugs, monsters and lowlifes you will need to select a mission to attempt. You will be given specific tasks to complete and will be placed on the map. You will fight everywhere from the lowest sewer to the holiest of cathedrals, no place is untouched. The City itself is a deathtrap as there are snares and traps littered about. Each of your bandsmen will need to be placed with the highest of care as one wrong move could spell disaster for your warriors. There are other factors that can spell either loss of win but are too numerous to mention. Just know that after 4 losses on the campaign, its game over.

As mentioned, Mordheim is a hardcore experience and takes no prisoners. There is a bit of a steep learning curve but the tutorials take care of most of the basics. You might need to attempt a few missions to get the hang of it but by then it might be too late. Strategy is of the utmost importance as you will need to weigh up strengths and weaknesses, the most effective attack and manage fatigue to name but a few. If you are into TBS and a really good challenge Mordheim: City of the Damned might be what you have been looking for. The graphics do seem a bit dated but seem to fit wonderfully in this hardcore experience. The narration is really good and adds a great deal of depth and setting the tone. With all this in mind just remember one last thing: Don’t Panic, Chaos is at work.

Mordheim is a good title for those looking for solid strategy experience.  Challenging and in-depth, it will pit your wits against some cunning foes and dangerous terain. Good luck to those that enter the City of the Damned

About Tyler Smail

Tyler Smail
Genetically created to be inhumanly awesome in a lab beneath the earth, I came to be. I rule the world with a iron first but also have a hidden soft spot for puppies. All look up to me in awe and amazement and silently whisper to themselves: "I Wish I were that Awesome". I place my gaze upon them and say, "not to worry my subjects, I will be awesome for all of us", and all cheer in unison. This is my life. My real life on the other hand is playing games until I dream of them and keeping my lady and three dogs entertained. As a sub note: if you make me ruler, I promise to build a coliseum and has weekly Zombie death matches... so to speak
