Interesting behind the scenes look at inner workings of a tech IPO, with undeniable similarities drawn to the Facebook IPO. If you don’t remember 2012 the biggest in technology and one of the biggest in Internet history was the Facebook IPO, dubbed a “cultural touchstone”. I can’t confirm if this movie lets the viewer see behind the curtain of this IPO but it definitely was inspired by it.

An investment banker Naomi Bishop (Anna Gunn) tries to work her way up the Wall Street ladder while a prosecutor (Alysia Reiner) keeps an eye out for corrupt practices. Many forces conspire against her as she tries to move past the aftermath of her last undervalued project and prove herself in the tough world of Wall Street. The seemingly impossible task in a post-financial crisis made even more difficult as she has to contend against gender bias.

The plot is simple but what happens around the main storyline is gripping and thought provoking, as it exposes the inequalities and fierce competition to get to the top. The working environment is toxic but money at stake is alarming in this industry. Whether you work in such an industry or not it still speaks to all adults whether you want to accept it or not the message becomes clearer and clearer throughout the movie. The movie is a controversial and thought provoking slow burn corporate drama that is engaging to watch.
