Overwatch Beta Overview – Introduction

Quite some time ago we all remeber a rumour being spread about Blizzard releasing a title that would not contain the affix “-craft”, and this news was met with giggles and was brushed off as an “April Fools” prank. Guess that I was a fool, because I was one of those, however, in true Blizard style, they came through with confirmation and teased us with a title name. Shortly after we saw some concept art and excitement finally reached epic proportions after the unveiling of the teaser trailer and news at 2014 Blizzcon that literally broke the interwebs.

Overwatch is Blizzard’s Online Multiplayer FPS set in quite a futuristic world with very relatable heroes, who after the disbanding of a special task force that was created to maintain peace, still fight to preserve the values set out by the original Overwatch.

In Overwatch you play as a hero from a specific spec (role) being either Tank, DPS or Support, and together with your team that consists of other players from around the globe, you battle against the opposing team of players to successfully capture objectives or put up the ultimate defence against having a shipment smuggled to an extraction point in some very graphically rich locations. The graphics are very cell shaded, enough to relate to other titles in the same genre, but are spliced with enough CGI to set it apart as its own genesis. Nostalgia will abound if you are a gamer from the early Arena FPS titles.

We have been spoilt with Early Beta Access, and have begun our adventure. Below is a very brief video showcasing the introduction and basic training, in this video you can see the graphics, features and the style of the title. In the video to follow, we will play a game against AI and against some other Early Access players from around the globe, keep your eyes on our news feed! A more detailed review will follow at the official launch of the title.

About Mirage

I pretty much started gaming on Famicom! For those who didnt survive the flood on the ark with Noah, this was an 1980's 8-bit console using interchangeable cartridges. (Google it, it will blow your mind!). From there things got a bit more hardcore, and I started playing DOS-Based games, (Again...google is your friend.) and that progressed through Windows 3.1, until the present where I enjoy intense graphics, captivating story-lines, alternate endings and mind-numbing grinds on both PS3 and Windows PC. When I'm not gaming, I am a club DJ that enjoys playing House, Progressive, Trance, Tech and Minimal. I love watching Anime, my favorite shows are Naruto and Bleach. Epic, I know.
