This Wednesday Dark Horse comics brought out the Trade paper bag for Aliens: Defiance Vol 1. This is the collection of the first 6 issues and the short story Aliens: Defiance – Extravehicular. Here is a little synopsis of the volume:
Battling demons from her past while fighting for her life, Colonial Marine Private First Class Zula Hendricks, in the company of Weyland-Yutani synthetics, is forced to question her strength and loyalty when the discovery of an insidious alien species on a derelict hauler sends her on a dangerous journey across the stars.
This series is set between the first film Alien and the second film Aliens (the best two in the series for me). The beginning pages of the book give a bit of a back story on Zula and how she got into the problem that she is now, and it is a bit slow. However the more you read the more the suspense builds up and you can see that the writers of this series love the film franchise. The art really sets the tone for the Aliens: Defiance and you won’t get bored with it. It is a contained story but with hints that it is still based in the same universe as the movies. Ripley’s daughter also makes a Cameo in this volume. This would be a worthwhile investment for anybody that loves Scifi Horror storytelling. This is your local mad scientist signing out…in a comic shop everybody can hear you scream
